Coconut Grove: A State of Mind

STOP Grove Gridlock Campaign

PETITION
STOP GROVE GRIDLOCK!
To:
Historic & Environmental Preservation Board (HEPB), Planning, Zoning & Appeals Board (PZAB) and City of Miami Officials

COCONUT GROVE NEEDS YOU: BE A B.I.G. VOICE advocating for the climate resilience of our coastal community and protect the Historic Preservation Overlay District of the Villa Woodbine site.

Join B.I.G., VOTE NO! DENY approval of Carrollton’s proposed elementary school for 336 boys and 50 faculty at VILLA WOODBINE located at 2167 South Bayshore Drive. The site is located less than 150 yards from Ransom Everglades Middle School and directly across the street from KENNEDY PARK.

STOP Grove Gridlock! This an unnecessary development, since there are 17 schools located in Coconut Grove serving over 6700 students when the Grove has approximately an area that is 5 square miles and 21,000 residents.

The impact to the City of Miami’s neighborhoods is even greater traffic bottlenecks that will impose an immense burden on our quality of life, with gridlock causing increased pollution and toxic traffic fumes, and the loss of our most personal measurable resource, our time and money. Especially for the residents of Coconut Grove – where school traffic congestion is already crippling.

Removing EIGHTY PERCENT (80%) of its existing 220 trees stated in Carrollton’s survey and arborist report will destroy Villa Woodbine’s mature and lush tree canopy, green space and the site’s protected historic and natural resources. The footprint SF of new construction will be 8 times larger than the Villa, and will add over 104,000 SF of non-pervious surface. These factors pose a grave hazard to the resilience of an already delicate coastal corridor area and will likely create flooding of surrounding properties.

Approving a new school at the historic Villa Woodbine property at 2167 S Bayshore Drive poses risks to the City of Miami that we cannot afford!

Absolutely oppose, this will make it impossible getting in/out of the Grove with both Tigertail and Bayshore blocked.
Juan Carlos Junco 03.12.2019 at 14:07
No to all boy school at Villa Woodbine. Keep it a historical home / venue. No to an increase in school traffic in the Grove.
Monica Escandon 03.12.2019 at 13:48
There are many buildings in construction. We do not need more traffic neither more buildings that are very harmful por the Grove!
Ed London 03.12.2019 at 13:24
Traffic is currently horrendous . The school will make it much worse for those who use Bayshore drive and for the parents and children of Carrollton
Elisabeth Gazay 03.12.2019 at 13:19
We moved to the Grove for the green spaces, parks, village feeling and different lifestyle and now again we need to fight to stop over development, destruction of tree canopy and historical places ???
The traffic on Bayshore is already bumper to bumper twice a day, this project just doesn’t belong here and they are plenty of other options in vacant lots without history and not on a scenic drive. City of Miami must listen these voices and it’s basic urban planning common sense that this is not the right location now for a huge school.
Claire Amerena 03.12.2019 at 12:36
There are so many reasons this shouldn’t happen but
Mainly the traffic problems caused at busy hours and then the elimination of an historic building for an oversized and full school in a residential area in place of a single family home.
This is where city planners need to step in and prevent a catastrophic regret before it happens.
Please NO not there!!
Maria Velasquez 03.12.2019 at 11:42
I am a Grove resident who moved out of Brickell to have quiet and safe streets for my son. The Grove is becoming Brickell! South Bayshore Drive is a scenic Roadway. It cannot handle any additional traffic.
Peggy Gaines 03.12.2019 at 11:38
The traffic in the Grove is already terrible we don’t need to invite more congestion. We need to protect and respect the beauty of our neighborhood.
Sandra Madjdi 03.12.2019 at 02:07
PLEASE STOP THE OVER DEVELOPMENT AND MORE SCHOOLS IN COCONUT GROVE . FIX THR GRIDLOCK BEFOEE ADDING MORE TO IT
Kathleen Howard 03.12.2019 at 02:07
The proposed school is exactly opposite of the neighborhood makeup it intends to occupy. Traffic-producing on a daily basis, no respect for green space or the tree canopy, and out of proportion to the structures around it. It offers no benefit to those living in the 33133 zip code.
Ana L Dominguez 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Work in the Grove for the last 15 yrs, run to branches for a local community bank, in Commodore and Bayshore. Traffic is out of control, without plans for parking.
Michelle Niemeyer 03.12.2019 at 02:07
It is mind boggling that we are even having this conversation. The only change that should be made to Villa Woodbine's use, if any, should be back to single family residential, which is the use of most of the surrounding neighborhood. It violates the principles behind every effort the City of Miami has made toward a more sane approach to development: the tree ordinance, Miami 21, the NCD-3.

If Carrollton would like to build an additional campus, perhaps they would like to do so in downtown Miami. A lot of my downtown neighbors have children, and I am sure they would appreciate having a great private school like Carrollton easily accessible to where they live and work. Also, lots of the parents who would be dropping off their kids at Villa Woodbine work downtown, so having a school downtown would be convenient for them, too.
Deanna Blanc 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Anything that destroys the tree canopy does not belong in coconut grove. There is not even a need for more schools.
Kate Callahan 03.12.2019 at 02:07
I live across the street from Ransom Everglades Middle School. Already I cannot get out of my driveway for hours each day as parents drop off and pick up their children.
ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!
I will fight like my life depends on it to prohibit another school to be built across from my home.
Sally Richardson 03.12.2019 at 02:07
It is ridiculous to destroy even more of our tree canopy and Increase the already crippling traffic on Tigertail and Bayshore. We have way more than our fair share of schools and traffic. Don't add more.
Sarah M Nims 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Enough. We have enough schools. Save the trees. Save the environment. These things cannot be replaced.
Andres Kaufman 03.12.2019 at 02:07
I am signing this petition to stop the disrespect towards private property in the Coconut Grove area of Miami. Respect private property and stop destroying trees.
Lance Geller 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Traffic in the area was a problem in 1980 when I first attended Ransom Middle. Since then, we have added exactly zero new roads to accommodate the thousands of additional cars. The math doesn't work. At some point, enough is enough. Either we get sensible growth management (which includes the option of no growth) or citizens will vote with their dollars resulting in home values and quality of life decreases in the Grove (as it is happening in most of Miami-Dade).
Susan Pigna 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Stop letting greedy developers destroy the character and charm of the grove. Poor urban planning resulting in the gentrification of the grove will ultimately devalue property values as well as the overall quality of life and experience in Miami. It’s criminal what commissioners and the mayor has done here. Some of the new class A office buildings on main are hideous and built out of scale without green space.
Hilarie bass 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Adding another school on Soutb Bayshore will negatively affect the quality of life for every person living in the Grove and destroy an historic site for no benefit. There are plenty of other locations for this school. This is a very poor choice and should not be allowed.
Scott Howard 03.12.2019 at 02:07
The development of a new school in Coconut Grove is not necessary, and not in the best interests of the residents of The Grove. Can the folks at Carrollton give us a breakdown of the zip codes their current students reside, and what projections they have for the proposed 336 boys and 50 faculty and where they would reside?
Barry Franigan 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Stop letting greedy and selfish petitioners destroy the character and charm of grove residents estates by posting banners on gates and fence of properties of which they dont own or pay taxes on
Hilarie Bass 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Putting a new school On South Bay sure will negatively affect the quality of life of every resident of Coconut Grove, not to mention destroy when the few remaining historic sites in the Grove. There are plenty of other appropriate sites for the school. They should not be approved.
john snyder 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Villa woodbine is being preserved, and would be better preserved by maintaining its present existing use. The Historic and environmental preservation board is only allowed to permit a use, different from what the property is zoned for, only to preserve an historic resource.
Mario Bravo 03.12.2019 at 02:07
No need for another school here.
Alexandra Ramirez 03.12.2019 at 02:07
South Bayshore Drive cannot handle any more traffic. The back streets can no longer handle the waze traffic.
Eric Salzer 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Stop Grove Gridlock. We do not need another school on Bayshore. Traffic patterns are bad enough, and with the Harbor Project coming, things are going to get much worse
Maria Freed 03.12.2019 at 02:07
We don’t want this school in our neighborhood!
Derick Ferrao 03.12.2019 at 02:07
With traffic, parking issues, and near misses in traffic accidents, the potential of another school in the area is a tipping point that we as residents cannot tolerate!
Totally opposed to a school at Villa Woodbine!
Patricia DeYoung 03.12.2019 at 02:07
This is a insane proposal for all who live here!
Traffic in this area is impossible at school times. The dropping off and pick up will be crazy. The Tree that will be lost forever is not acceptable.
Carrie Kay 03.12.2019 at 02:07
No more development in the grove and destruction of what makes it a beautiful place to live!
James Benages 03.12.2019 at 02:07
I own a property very nearby. More schools??????
We need more trees and canopy. Not more schools.

The coconut grove area of te city of Miami is the only area of the city of Miami that’s worth living in. Why keep chipping away at that section?
Gretel B. Norweb 03.12.2019 at 02:07
This is ludicrous and all about greed! We do not need more construction, destruction and more traffic. We need to preserve our tropical settings, the integrity and safety of Coconut Grove and our quality of life.
Vivianne Swietelsky 03.12.2019 at 02:07
There is no way that this school will not increase traffic dramatically on the already-congested South Bayshore Drive and Tigertail Avenues, two of our three main arteries that traverse Coconut Grove. One has only to see what happens on Main Highway in Central Grove at drop-off and pick-up times for the two Carrollton and one Ransom campuses. Villa Woodbine is not a good location for a new school.
Tejeiro MD William V 03.12.2019 at 02:07
No more schools. This is ridiculous. Already you can’t get through tiger tail rd because selfish people want to pick up their kids when school buses are available. If there is any more congestion then I will be selling my home and moving elsewhere.
Cindy 03.12.2019 at 02:07
The traffic was the schools we have is chaotic already, I am totally opposed to get a new school in our neighborhood.
Charles Loredo 03.12.2019 at 02:07
This is unnecessary, there are plenty of schools in the Grove, the streets can’t handle any more traffic or growth
Ronald Canizares 03.12.2019 at 02:07
STOP GROVE GRID LOCK

SAY NO!
AL AROSTEGUI 03.12.2019 at 02:07
STOP GROVE GRIDLOCK. WE DO NOT WANT ANYMORE CLASS ROOMS IN THE GROVE. OR BUILDING.

YPOU ARE DESTROYING IT.
alexander candales 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Completely against this development. It would not be beneficial to our community in any way.
Cheryl Brown Brown 03.12.2019 at 02:07
This is a residential neighborhood not for commercial properties like for profit schools causing increased traffic problems.
Ellen Roth 03.12.2019 at 02:07
We are loosing all our green space to overbuilding.
The traffic from the 5 new condo buildings alone will produce a nightmare for residents and non-residents trying to travel through this area of Miami. In order to preserve the beauty of our community and enjoy the quality of life all citizens deserve, keep the environment and pave over another area that doesn't appreciate or respect what the natural landscape in this area of the city provides -- for free.
Martha & Michael Wollberg 03.12.2019 at 02:07
we need more green and less traffic! Villa woodbine should be preserved, and would be better by maintaining its present use. Thanks!
Gary Gross 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Please stop the madness...we have enough schools and traffic already..You represent the people not the developers....do your job...protect us!!!!
Chris Willits 03.12.2019 at 02:07
no more schools in coconut grove!
Chelsea Jennemyr 03.12.2019 at 02:07
This hardly serves the residents of 33133 and will only draw more from outside the district into an already overly-congested residential neighborhood. Hopefully this won’t become another private commercial venture that abuses residential rights and space.
Lisa Yoss 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Simply NOT the right location for Carrollton. Drive past their two campuses any day and experience what will be. Ugh.
christine davies 03.12.2019 at 02:07
The area is already very congested. There are several schools in the Grove. We need all the tree canopy we can preserve. It would be shocking to remove so many trees.
Maria 03.12.2019 at 02:07
Completely against this school. It destroys green space, increases traffic in an already gridlocked street, and destroys the historical homes/venacular of Coconut Grove. PLease preserve the history and beauty of Coconut Grove.
Katherine Whittingham 03.12.2019 at 02:07
No more schools.
