Coconut Grove: A State of Mind

STOP Grove Gridlock Campaign

PETITION
STOP GROVE GRIDLOCK!
To:
Historic & Environmental Preservation Board (HEPB), Planning, Zoning & Appeals Board (PZAB) and City of Miami Officials

COCONUT GROVE NEEDS YOU: BE A B.I.G. VOICE advocating for the climate resilience of our coastal community and protect the Historic Preservation Overlay District of the Villa Woodbine site.

Join B.I.G., VOTE NO! DENY approval of Carrollton’s proposed elementary school for 336 boys and 50 faculty at VILLA WOODBINE located at 2167 South Bayshore Drive. The site is located less than 150 yards from Ransom Everglades Middle School and directly across the street from KENNEDY PARK.

STOP Grove Gridlock! This an unnecessary development, since there are 17 schools located in Coconut Grove serving over 6700 students when the Grove has approximately an area that is 5 square miles and 21,000 residents.

The impact to the City of Miami’s neighborhoods is even greater traffic bottlenecks that will impose an immense burden on our quality of life, with gridlock causing increased pollution and toxic traffic fumes, and the loss of our most personal measurable resource, our time and money. Especially for the residents of Coconut Grove – where school traffic congestion is already crippling.

Removing EIGHTY PERCENT (80%) of its existing 220 trees stated in Carrollton’s survey and arborist report will destroy Villa Woodbine’s mature and lush tree canopy, green space and the site’s protected historic and natural resources. The footprint SF of new construction will be 8 times larger than the Villa, and will add over 104,000 SF of non-pervious surface. These factors pose a grave hazard to the resilience of an already delicate coastal corridor area and will likely create flooding of surrounding properties.

Approving a new school at the historic Villa Woodbine property at 2167 S Bayshore Drive poses risks to the City of Miami that we cannot afford!

BAYSHORE CAN`T SUPPORT ANY MORE TRAFFIC! SHOPPIG MALLS, SCHOOLS... WE NEED BALANCE! STOP GROVE GRIDLOCKS!
stephanie pereira 19.12.2019 at 16:34
I work around the area and I believe preservation is important if possible of the trees and environment. Even if the school says they will replant, trees take too long to grow and generate impact that empowers. I also agree that as a private school a los of cars will be added to the zones traffic making it impossible to get and leave work on a very stressful ride to my house in midtown which is already 30 min+ based on traffic.
Kevin Scott dwyer 19.12.2019 at 13:24
I agree that the adverse traffic impact is insurmountable, and will require significant government funds to adjust traffic issues.
Reshma Naidoo 19.12.2019 at 12:52
I do not support the change of zoning for a school. The current residential neighborhood does not have the capacity to accommodate the additional traffic. This area is already at capacity with the current school.
Murray Epstein , M.D. 18.12.2019 at 16:08
Unecessary, destructibe to the environment,
an assault and rape on the lovely lush tree canopy that we all treasure !
Genevieve Medina 17.12.2019 at 19:49
I work in the area and strongly oppose another school being added to the community and will cause even more traffic.
Rebeccca Curtis 17.12.2019 at 19:41
We do not need yet another school. And the Grove should be made into a historic district south of McFarlane so developers don't build high rise buildings. Preservation is needed.
Ronald Kelly 17.12.2019 at 17:31
I work in the area ant the traffic in the afternoon already is horrible. Please consider a different use for Villa Woodbine
Isi beraja 16.12.2019 at 21:22
Save the peacocks!! It is my pride and joy to see the peacocks in my lovely coconut grove community. I would hate to see them go away :( please keep the peacocks!!!
Maty Beraja 16.12.2019 at 21:20
The roads in this area is Coconut Grove do not allow for a proper flow of traffic. Bayshore and Tigertail are both two-way, one lane streets that already experience extreme congestion during weekday rush hours. Education is important and it would be best to consider relocating this institution elsewhere, as it would cause much stress to the community.
Stan Sowinski 16.12.2019 at 13:51
Adding a school in the middle of a neighborhood is only going to add more traffic to the area, making commutes ANYWHERE more difficult and life more complicated. Re-locate it to homestead! There's plenty of space there!
Jose Martinez 13.12.2019 at 13:48
They need to relocate future school project out of our residential neighborhood, Coconut Grove. They need to consider Homestead or further West. As children , we were driven to schools miles out of neighborhoods commuting up to forty five minutes each way. This is how you plan and develop properly.
Elizabeth Yelamos 13.12.2019 at 03:52
There’s a big giant empty science museum that looks so much like a HS—- but no, they want a beautiful historic mansion to rip apart and tear out trees and cause a traffic nightmare for decades. I would like to remind everyone our public schools are amazing.
Monique Feringa 12.12.2019 at 18:35
Absolutely!!
It’s busy enough as it is, let’s not make it worse!

The Grove has so much traffic at this time. It would be very difficult (disaster) is another school was on Bayshore when we have a one way lane each way. As it is it is VERY difficult. Another location would be fabulous.
Stephen Hill 12.12.2019 at 15:21
We live a few feet from Tigertail and 22nd (and the proposed school site). This intersection is already backed up for blocks in every direction during rush hours and in mid-afternoon when Ransom releases. Recently, I experienced a 30-minute commute by auto from Milam's grocery to my home on Freeman. We simply can't add another large source of auto traffic to this area without absurd restrictions to our ability to access our homes.
Magnus Liljedahl 11.12.2019 at 19:06
The traffic on Bayshore Drive between Aviation and SW 17th Ave is horrible. There is no sidewalks nor marked crossings making it a dangerous place for pedestrians. There is a serious existing drainage problem. All the pollution from the street flood into the bay and ruin our habitat which is a sad thing to see.
sue mcconnell 11.12.2019 at 12:12
This should not even be considered. This will be a traffic nightmare. Please consider the people that travel that route to and from work.
Claudia Uribe 09.12.2019 at 15:11
traffic is bad enough as it is now on bayshore drive . no more building please !
we need to protect the only green areas left .
Phyllis Gross 07.12.2019 at 23:46
TRAFFIC CANNOT BE CONTROLLED
NOW...WHO'S MONITORING IT?????
IT IS BECOMING MORE DANGEROUS
EVERY DAY WITH SCOOTERS AND
SO MANY TRUCKS AND BARRIERS
EVERYWHERE IN THE GROVE.
PLEASE HELP.

Every 2-3 years the fashion change . Mediterranean style seems now so obsolete but at least it blends in with the original character and style of coconut grove. Styles goes out of fashion fast but boxes will destroy coconut Grove forever.

Please save the cozy groves

No more Developers Developing waste and pollution!

We need more environmental windmills and fountains.

They need to cut it out. Climate change is on the rise and we are only capable of the reverse.

Tell them to think about future generations to come.

Respectfully yours,

The city needs to look to help all parts of the city rise up by putting schools and other new developments in those deprived sections. The traffic and population growth over the 20 years I've lived here is reaching a breaking point, enough already, and we're not even including the development on Douglas and Main that will add even more transient traffic to disrupt the lives of Grove residents.
Edward Navarro 05.12.2019 at 16:07
I will support your petition but the real question is how many of you who are so concerned voted for Ken Russel who is owned by developers.
Now that development is encroaching on this part of the grove you want to stop it.
What are you going to do about all the overdevelopment taking place in other parts of the grove
Alfredo Hidalgo Gato 05.12.2019 at 14:17
We had our Commissioner Ken Russell who supposedly represents us, speak at our home owners meeting and when he was asked how we could stop the development he smugly said there was no way to stop it at all. It became very obvious that the fix was in. Sadly he sides with his big donors not the home owners.
Tatiana Tascon 05.12.2019 at 05:44
We don’t need more traffic in the already congested S Bayshore Dr. Instead we need a sidewalk along S bayshore and a bike lane
David pujol 04.12.2019 at 23:42
How many schools do we honestly need? Why not add 3 more movie theaters or another 5 Starbucks?

Take your greedy asses somewhere else.
CARLOS YERMOLI 04.12.2019 at 23:00
Any increase or slowdown of traffic in South Bayshore Drive will inevitably increase the traffic on the already overloaded Tigertail Avenue. This avenue is not designed for heavy or fast traffic, it is designated as full lane bycicle road and the proposed development will increase the risk of accidents.
Denise Castro 04.12.2019 at 22:13
Local residents and Ambulances to Mercy can barely get by! No room for more cars in the Grove. It takes me 10+ minutes at times to leave Grove Isle neighborhood to get to our local schools in the morning.
maria cecilia pellegatti 04.12.2019 at 20:05
we must preserve the little remains of Coconut Grove, no more new buildings, want to destroy the little native forest we have.
jose marcos pellegatti 04.12.2019 at 19:19
absurdity of absurdity, as the world discusses the Amazon rainforest, why should we let this do with our little forest?
Elizabeth Balbin 04.12.2019 at 17:58
Coconut Grove is that little last enclave of Green. And actually a bit of a home to many species. With so much of Miami that can use some fresh construction and business... why destroy the Grove ? It also impacts Biscayne Bay. We need to stop being driven by greed and start doing the right thing.
Robin Parker 04.12.2019 at 16:47
For F-'sake, Why would Carrollton, an educational institution, with a duty to also teach by example even consider such an affront to sensible stewardship?
James Hill 04.12.2019 at 15:21
Traffic is intolerable as it is along Bayshore Dr. The proposed school if permitted would put excessive stress in an already bad traffic situation.
joseph boolbol md 04.12.2019 at 12:17
I have called the police department many times to come out and ticket cars illegally parked all over S. Bayshore Dr. in front of Kennedy Park every weekend. The police refused to do anything. There is no enforcement of parking regulations at all in the Grove unlike other areas in Miami.
Michelle Black 04.12.2019 at 00:34
I DENY approval of Carrollton’s proposed elementary school located at 2167 South Bayshore Drive, the site is located less than 150 yards from Ransom Everglades Middle School and directly across the street from KENNEDY PARK.
alina lopez 03.12.2019 at 23:55
This would ruin our beautiful Grove. There is already too much traffic with what we have. There is enough schools already.
Eduardo Betancourt 03.12.2019 at 22:37
Traffic is already bad enough with Ransom. We need to preserve the beauty of the grove and the value of our homes.
Wendy Sanchez 03.12.2019 at 22:32
Please do not continue to contribute to the already congested South Bayshore Drive area. This is terrible for the quality of life of the local residents.
Elizabeth Annabel Page 03.12.2019 at 22:05
Too many schools already in area. A big traffic problem already caused by Ransom and this will only make it worse.
Huesmann 03.12.2019 at 20:39
traffic is bad enough throughout the Grove and in that area between schools generally and everyone using the back roads to get to downtown. We do not need more. It will destroy trees and add concrete-something the grove is not supposed to be known for and has enough of.
Frank Balzebre 03.12.2019 at 20:04
Stop the Insanity!
We ave enough resources to take care of our children in and outside of Cocoanut Grove..
Marysol Patton 03.12.2019 at 19:36
Over My Dead Body. This is absolutely not acceptable. I love directly in front of Villa Woodbine and already have Ransom a stones throw from me. I will fight tooth and nail.
Lisa howland 03.12.2019 at 18:36
Our streets are already congested and unsafe.

I strongly oppose another school in north Grove..
Please consider the residents quality of life.
Hannah Jazayri 03.12.2019 at 18:15
STOP GROVE GRIDLOCK, I VOTE NO! We have so many schools here already, this is getting ridiculous. You will destroy the authenticity of Villa Woodbine if we allow this to happen. :(
John Schoendorf 03.12.2019 at 16:52
Having this project would be atrocious. We have a nasty situation already with the expansion of Ransom over the years that turns our neighborhood into a parking lot two times a day. This is a residential neighborhood!!!
Ann Hyslop 03.12.2019 at 16:30
The gridlock imposed by another school, with over 400 cars coming in and out of the area twice daily, places our residents - and the children attending all of our schools - at risk of delayed emergency medical services forced to fight thick traffic on one and two way neighborhood streets. Building this school would be an UNSAFE decision.
Maria Vinas 03.12.2019 at 14:57
The traffic is already UNBEARABLE in the Grove. Please do not allow any more school in the Grove.
Let them built it in downtown Miami!
Jason 03.12.2019 at 14:31
Traffic issues makes this an impossibility. There is already enough noise and congestion in the residential neighborhood. We already have problems with drivers Ravi g through our once quiet streets trying to short cut the gridlock that already exists. It has turned out streets into danger zones during traffic peak times.
